Our team of experts has years of experience in administering these treatments, assuring you of their safety and effectiveness.

  • What are Trigger Points (TPs)?
    •  Discrete, hyperirritable spots located within a taut band of skeletal muscle … often experienced at “knots”
    • They are typically felt as firm nodules or knots and are associated with local tenderness, referred pain and sometimes a local twitch response
    • Result from persistent muscle contraction and reduced blood flow
  • Causes / Risk Factors
    • Overuse
    • Repetitive Strain / Tension
    • Acute Muscle Injury / Trauma
    • Chronic Inflammation
    • Psychological Stress
    • Poor Posture
    • Sedentary Habits
  • Trigger Point Classification
    • Active TPs – Localized or Referred Pain at Rest
    • Latent TPs – Painful upon Palpation and may Restrict Range of Motion or cause Muscle Weakness
    • Satellite TPs – Develop in response to irritation from another nearby TP
  • Myofascial Pain Syndrome
    • TPs are a hallmark of Myofascial Pain Syndrome and are most commonly found in postural muscles such as those of the neck, shoulders and pelvic girdles
    • TPs may develop after acute trauma, repetitive microtrauma or muscle overload
    • Diagnosis is clinical, based on physical examination findings as there are no universally accepted objective tests
  • Symptoms
    • Localized Pain – Often described as Tight, Vise-Like, Restrictive, Intractable Throbbing
    • Referred Pain
      • Chronic localized muscle contractions may result in nerve impingement
      • Impingement may lead to local or distal neuropathic symptoms (tingling / numbness / burning)
    • Pain will often result in Restricted Range of Motion / Headaches
    • Pain may also result in Autonomic Symptoms such as:
      • Brain Fog
      • Dizziness / Lightheadedness
      • Digestive Issues
      • Fatigue (Not alleviated by rest)
  • Myofascial Pain Treatment
    • Noninvasive Therapies
      • Stretching / Strengthening
      • Physical Therapy
      • Electrical Stimulation
      • Myofascial Release (Manual Therapy)
    • Invasive Intervention:  Trigger Point Injections
(Reserved for Refractory Cases and / or Failed Non-Invasive Therapies)
  • Myofascial Release (MFR)
    • Myofascial System is a network of Muscles and Fascia (thin connective tissue) that surrounds / supports muscles
    • When Fascia becomes tight, restricted or develops adhesions, it can cause pain, stiffness and limited movement
    • MRF is a type of manual therapy used to release tension which in turn relieves pain / improves mobility
    • Disclosure:  Although “traditional” MFR is not typically painful, our technique is exquisitely painful … However, it’s also the key to our Myofascial Treatment Success

Trigger Point Injections & Joint Injections FAQs

What is the process for receiving Trigger Point Injections or Joint Injections at Mariposa Transformation Wellness Center & Med Spa?

At our center, the process begins with an initial consultation where our team will conduct a thorough review of your medical history and discuss your specific pain concerns. If you are deemed a suitable candidate for either Trigger Point Injections or Joint Injections, a customized treatment plan is developed. The procedure itself is minimally invasive, conducted in a comfortable setting and overseen by our experienced provider.

What are the expected benefits of Trigger Point Injections and Joint Injections?

In full disclosure, a Trigger Point Injection Treatment is remarkably painful if done correctly.  That being said, the degree of pain also supports that the heart of the Trigger Point was accurately identified.  Post treatment, one can expect to experience significant soreness over the following 2-3 days.  Once soreness subsides, this is when you’re more likely to appreciate the therapeutic effect of the treatment.  Joint Injections provide relief from discomfort caused by arthritis, sprains, or other joint problems. A few weeks after these treatments, patients typically experience an improvement in their mobility, enabling them to return to a more active lifestyle.

Does the Mariposa Transformation Wellness Center & Med Spa support patients’ post-treatment?

Absolutely. At Mariposa, we believe in a holistic approach to wellness that extends beyond treatment. Our team is committed to supporting you throughout your health journey, offering personalized care that aligns with your unique needs. Post-treatment, we continue to monitor your progress and adjust your treatment plan as necessary. Our goal is to ensure your overall well-being, enhancing your quality of life.
